In truth, wine has a big role to play in history. For some, wine is one of the factors which unify different races while some consider wine as a essential for each celebration. Campania, a small yet insidious region located in Southern Italy is not an exclusion when it comes to cities that treat wine entirely.  The area is not only known for the stunning Amalfi Coast for it also boasts a rich winemaking custom. It puts a higher respect to both wine and food. Needless to say, it is one of the country’s fundamental prides when it comes to wines with profound taste and flavor.

Wine Making has been existent in the region since 7th century B.C. The Greek settlers are the ones who first introduced the culture to the region.  Regrettably, the industry did not flourish well before since the region’s wine potentials were hindered by extreme impoverishment. Almost four decades ago, only three wineries are present but now, there are over one hundred wineries that are distributed all throughout the region. To date, there are 18 recognized areas in the locale which make wine.  Avellino is arguably one of the hot spots for wine buffs since it is renowned to be an upland province that uses higher concentration of fiano or the region’s authentic grapes. Culturing fresh batches of fiano can be tough but since Avellino’s lands are raised, all of its vineyards ensure pristine and delicious grapes. The province might have a scarred history when a 1980 quake devastated the place and killed more than 3,000 individuals yet it was able to remake itself and return a name in the winemaking industry.

In spite the ceaseless old wines that the region takes pride of, Taurasi stays to be one of the people's favorite for the stimulating pleasure that its taste brings. It is acknowledged as the Barolo of the South because of its robust structure and richness. The Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) status was granted to the wine in 1970 whereas the Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) status was presented in 1993 which prove the wine’s genuineness. This wine forte is perfect for those who are hungering for a hard savor that will complement a strong-flavored palate. Most wine lovers commend its taste when paired with pizzas or roasted meats. It is not recommended though for vegetable and fish dishes since it has a great propensity to overpower the savor of such food preparations. Recognizing Taurasi wine is easy since it runs a solid purple or ruby color in the glass. It is developed from the noted Aglianico grape. Usually, each bottleful contains 85% Aglanico grapevines while the remaining 15% is derived from other berry varieties.  The wine is normally aged in root cellars for three years and one year of its storage must be spent in wooden barrels such as chestnut and oak barrelfuls.

If you go to Southern Italy, remember to include Campania and Campania wine in your .  Expect your breaths to be taken away by the amazing places and if you feel hungry, check by one of the region’s pizzerias which are all known for mouth-watering pastas and pizzas.
